What the Language NEA Involves
Here, the NEA is a live recorded speaking exam, not coursework — comprising a Role-Play Task, a Reading Aloud/Stimulus Response section, and a General Conversation (the largest component). It is a single live recording, with no retakes or editing.
Why It Has to Be In Person
The assessment must be face-to-face with a qualified assessor and recording equipment — often the trickiest logistical step for independent or out-of-school candidates.
Speaking often accounts for around a quarter of the overall GCSE language grade, with the assessment window commonly falling in the spring term.
