Applying to Sit an Exam
Do you accept private candidates who aren't enrolled in tuition with you?
Yes. We welcome candidates of all ages and backgrounds who need to sit a GCSE or A-Level exam, whether or not you've studied with us.
Does it matter whether I take AQA, Edexcel or OCR?
You should enter with whichever board matches the specification you've studied, as content and exam format differ between boards. The qualification itself carries equal weight regardless of which board awards it.
What ID do I need to bring?
A current passport or photo driving licence is the most straightforward option. If you don't have either, contact us in advance and we'll advise on an acceptable alternative — exam boards require us to verify candidate identity before entry.
What name should I use on the application?
Please give your name exactly as it appears on your official ID (passport, driving licence, etc.), including any middle names.
I'm resitting a subject — is the process any different?
No, the application process is the same as a first sitting. For science subjects moving between exam boards, let us know in advance as a Transfer of Credit may be needed to carry over your practical endorsement.
Is it too late for me to apply?
In most cases, no — we can register candidates for most of the academic year. Entries submitted close to the exam date may be subject to late or very late entry fees, so it's worth applying as early as possible.
On Exam Day
When should I arrive on exam day?
Please arrive at least 25 minutes before your exam start time to allow for sign-in and settling into the exam room.
What if I'm ill or running late on the day of the exam?
Contact us as soon as possible. We'll talk you through the options, which may include special consideration depending on the circumstances.
What happens if two of my exams clash?
Where possible we'll schedule one exam in the morning and one in the afternoon on the same day. If that isn't feasible, you'll sit them back-to-back with a supervised break in between.
What is a UCI number?
UCI stands for Unique Candidate Identifier — the number that appears on all your certificates and is unique to you. We'll register this for you as part of your entry.
Support & Access Arrangements
I have a specific learning difficulty or medical condition — what support is available?
A range of arrangements may be available, but we'll need supporting evidence (such as a specialist report, EHCP or letter from a medical professional) before we can apply to the exam board on your behalf. See our full Access Arrangements page for details.
Do I have to pay for access arrangements?
No — these are provided free of charge to any candidate who qualifies.
Why do I sometimes need to complete a mock exam first?
Exam boards require evidence that an arrangement reflects your normal way of working, so a supervised mock exam using the arrangement is sometimes needed before it can be approved.

We accept card, bank transfer and cash. Fees are due at the point of entry; please speak to us if you need to discuss payment in instalments.
