Enquiries About Results (EAR)
If a result doesn't reflect the standard a candidate was expecting, our Enquiries About Results service lets you ask the exam board to check or re-mark a paper. As an approved AQA, Edexcel and OCR centre, we handle the submission on your behalf from start to finish.
Who Can Request One
Any candidate who received their result through us — including our own students and external candidates who sat their exam at The Astute College — can ask us to submit an EAR.
When It Makes Sense
An EAR is worth considering when a result is narrowly below a grade boundary, when a mark total looks inconsistent, or when a subject specialist feels the mark scheme may not have been applied consistently.
Levels of Review Available
Clerical Re-check
A check that every part of the paper was marked, added up correctly, and the correct grade boundary applied. Quickest and lowest-risk.
Review of Marking
A senior examiner reviews the marking against the mark scheme in detail. Can change a grade in either direction.
Access to Scripts
A copy of the marked paper itself, useful for deciding whether a fuller review is worthwhile.
Important: For a full Review of Marking, the outcome can mean a grade goes up, stays the same, or goes down. We'll always explain this clearly before you decide to proceed.
